The nation has been in a state of shock since the murder of 26 people in Newtown, Connecticut. Most of the victims were under the age of 7, which gave this event even more appalling dimensions. It is right and proper that the nation should mourn these deaths and celebrate the adult heroes who gave themselves in attempts to prevent even more carnage.

This event is viewed with such horror by President Obama that he is weighing the possible necessity of using executive power to negate the Second Amendment to the Constitution. A gun was the instrument of all this murder and mayhem, and in consequence of the misuse of that gun, something must be done to prevent any further instances of guns killing innocent children.

The murders at Newtown remind Christians of the Slaughter of the Innocents in Bethlehem when Jesus was a baby. However, the murders at Newtown were the work of a mental patient further deranged by drugs intended to help him, while The Slaughter of the Innocents was initiated by a vengeful king, the equivalent of the chief executive of a modern state. The gun did not initiate the murders at Newtown, and the swords did not initiate the Slaughter of the Innocents. Satanic motivations were at the heart of both events.

The body count in the murders at Newtown is sickening. The images of those beautiful faces covered a recent issue of People Magazine, and it was heartbreaking. There is, however, another slaughter in process in the USA, a real slaughter of innocents, for which there is no outcry and no national emergency and no executive order to put a stop to it. This slaughter is not documented in cover photos on People Magazine. This slaughter hides under the mantra of “a woman’s right to choose.” The word abortion has been sanitized in political circles in order to make it socially acceptable to casually slaughter 1.2 million innocents in the year 2011 alone.

Human beings. Unborn babies. 1.2 million in 2011. More than 54 million innocents slaughtered between 1973 and 2011.

Ancient Israel lived in a world where innocents were routinely slaughtered for social and political reasons, the same reasons that prevail in the perceived necessity of contemporary abortions. In ancient states, religion and government were inextricably entwined. The government relied on the gods and the hierarchy of priests for the gods. Citizens were expected to do whatever the gods asked in order to assure the safety and well-being of the state. In Psalm 106, the psalmist records what happened when the Israelites were seduced into worshiping those gods alongside or instead of God Most High.

They mingled with the nations
and learned to do as they did.
They served their idols,
which became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to the demons;
they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters.
Psalm 106:35-38

This behavior is exactly what American women are doing as they pour out innocent blood in millions of abortions. The women do it, because political leaders advocate it. They do it, because everybody else is doing it. They have been led to believe that there is no other rational choice. They do it most of all, because they are shielded from the necessity of knowing that they are sacrificing babies to either fear or selfish ambition. The phrase “a woman’s right to choose” was carefully crafted so that it didn’t say, “a woman’s right to kill.” Abortion advocates refuse to speak the word baby preferring to speak of “a blob of cells” or “the products of conception.” Under no circumstances do they want to say that a living human being is killed in every abortion.

I will say it. A living child, whose face would look just like the faces of Newtown if permitted to continue living, is murdered in every abortion.

America is pouring out the innocent blood of babies every day. We certainly should mourn and grieve the deaths of 26 innocent people in Newtown. We should equally mourn and grieve the deaths of more than 1 million babies every year, sacrificed to the god of political expediency and the god of self.

Pray that our country will see the real priority and take action to stop the huge slaughter of innocents nationwide. Pray that our leaders will recognize that doing the right thing instead of the politically correct thing for the mentally ill would do more to prevent slaughters like the one at Newtown than cancelling the Second Amendment. Pray that God will give wisdom and courage to our nation’s leaders to do what is right rather than what is expedient.
