A Hymn for Meditation

My God how wonderful thou art

My God how wonderful thou art,
Thy majesty how bright.
How beautiful thy mercy seat
In depths of burning light.

How wonderful, how beautiful
The sight of thee must be
Thine endless wisdom, boundless power
And awesome purity!

Yet I may love the too, O Lord,
Almighty as thou art,
For thou hast stooped to ask of me
The love of my poor heart.

My God, how wonderful thou art,
Thou everlasting friend!
On thee I stay my trusting heart
Till faith in vision end.

  • Where in the Bible is the picture of the “mercy seat in depths of burning light” found? (hint – not just one place)
  • What men in the Bible actually saw vision of the mercy seat and God sitting on it?
  • The psalmist observed that God was so high that he had to stoop to look at heaven, let alone the earth. Where is that vision recorded?
  • What is the most important sentiment expressed in this hymn? When was the last time you prayed these thoughts unencumbered by requests?
